Picture this… a 30-year-old queer woman during the pandemic picks up her first plant from Lowe’s… That’s it that’s the story.

Well, that’s part of the story. My name is Kayla Mejia & I grew up in NYC - growing up my mom had 2 hanging plants in our kitchen. They lived for what felt like forever & I wanted no part in taking care of them.

Meanwhile, my maternal grandmother was known for having the biggest & best green thumb - everyone would bring their dying plants to her & she would bring them back to life. Inside & outside of her home was lush, green & beautiful. But again I wanted no part in any of it.

Fast forward to the pandemic & I could hear my grandmother saying, “As I am you will be!” & so Haus of Sprouts began…….
